Ride To Work Anderson (RTWA) is a ministry of South Main Chapel & Mercy Center that provides affordable transportation to and from work for individuals in Anderson County. The cost is $5 per day ($25 per week) for up to 5 days of rides.
RTWA is designed as a short-term program lasting 6–8 weeks maximum, with the goal of helping individuals maintain employment while working toward long-term transportation solutions.
Participants must have already started their job before beginning the program.
Transportation is coordinated through licensed transportation providers, and all communication is handled by phone or text—no in-person meetings are required.
How the Process Works
The process begins by completing the online application at SouthMainMercy.org.
Once an application is received, our team reviews the information to determine if the program is a good fit and if we have the capacity to meet transportation needs. Applicants will be notified of their status by text or phone call.
If accepted, participants will receive program guidelines, expectations, and required forms digitally. All agreements will be completed electronically.
Program Requirements & Weekly Process
To begin receiving rides:
- Participants must confirm their spot by Thursday at 12:00 PM
- Submit their $25 weekly payment online at SouthMainMercy.org/donate by Sunday at 8:00 PM
- Be actively working and provide a current work schedule
If your schedule changes week to week, you must text your updated schedule by Sunday at 8:00 PM to receive rides for the following week.
Transportation will be scheduled after payment and schedule are received.
Program Goal
Our goal is to help each participant successfully maintain employment while working toward independent transportation. This may include:
- Purchasing a vehicle or moped
- Coordinating rides with coworkers
- Moving closer to work
- Transitioning to public transportation
RTWA is a temporary support program, and participation will end once a sustainable transportation solution is in place or at the end of the 6–8 week period.
